Here's the transcript:

Having vocal takes sound professional in a home studio environment is almost impossible.

I have done my fair share of pillows, carpets, blankets, duvys, foam, and DIY acoustic panels to more or less no avail.

Because in the end, there are frequency buildups, there are clashes, there is room reverb.

So, instead we have this wonderful software.

[Music]

Lander has a new AI tool for vocals called the Rehance.

And in this video, I'm going to put it to the test.

I'm going to stress it hard and see what comes out at the other end.

Let's find out.

[Music]

This video is brought to you by Lander.

And the Rehance tool is available in Lander Studio.

It's linked down below.

And if you use my link, you will get a 20% discount to everything Lander, and you will also support this channel.

It's like an affiliate link.

I think it was around 15 years ago, me and my family, we bought a new house, and I really wanted a vocal booth.

So, I invested in a lot of foam panels, and I did some DIY bass traps and whatnot.

And I had this little 1 x 2 meter cabinet, or what you can call it, and I stuffed it with foam.

And I thought I was going to get dead vocals.

Like no room reverb, no nothing.

And what I got instead was a bit less room reverb and a lot of boxiness.

Frequencies clashing.

Frequency buildups.

Of course, as a result of that, I was really frustrated.

And I thought, is it the mic? Is it the preamp? Is it the audio interface? What is it?

If it's not the room treatment, what is it?

And the truth is, it's really hard to tune in a room.

You got to have some really deep mathematical knowledge.

So when the first AI tools came that would remove the room reverb a bit—causing of course some artifacts—

It changed the way we can think about recording vocals at home.

No longer do you need to go to the excessive route of treating your room.

You have a spouse.

Maybe I do.

And she doesn't like me stuffing the walls with foam or DIY panels.

There's only so far a spouse can go to compromise on the home aesthetics.

So instead, we have this wonderful software.

[Music]

I had this rap verse that I just put in.

I did the hard tweak on it.

So, listen to this.

That's the original.

And then we have the Rehance version.

What you essentially do is you hit new Rehance.

And then I have a file here called “My Wonderful Room,” which is recorded using this microphone right here—the NT2A.

And I can select intensity.

Now I want to do low intensity for now.

Let's continue.

This won't take long.

It's just a short clip.

Now we have the original and the processed one.

Now let's listen to the original.

Hey, listen to my wonderful room.

A lot of EQ clashes, a lot of buildups, a lot of reverb.

Okay, next one.

Hey, listen to my wonderful room.

A lot of EQ clashes, a lot of buildups, a lot of reverb.

You got to love it.

And another thing, of course, you can just hit download here, and it will download to your computer on downloads like this.

Easy peasy.

Let's just see if I can process it even more.

Do medium.

Now we can listen to low again.

You just got to love it.

Now listen to this.

Hey, listen to my wonderful room.

A lot of EQ clashes, a lot of buildups, a lot of reverb.

You got to love it.

Okay.

You could hear something going on with the EQ—1000 or 2000 hertz or something.

Anyways, that can always be treated in the DAW.

Now, let's go with the hardest.

The high.

Remove unwanted noise.

So, the low just removes unwanted noise.

The medium—unwanted noise and the amount of room tone.

And the high removes unwanted noise, room tone, and adds a gentle corrective EQ.

Let's listen to this.

Hey, listen to my wonderful room.

A lot of EQ clashes, a lot of buildups, a lot of reverb.

You got to love it.

Now, back to the original.

You got to love it.

Now, all the background noise is removed.

Listen to this.

You got to love it.

No background noise.

Let's listen to the medium.

You just got to love it.

A bit more of the room reverb on the medium, but only slightly.

Now, listen to the low.

Wonderful room.

A lot of EQ clashes, a lot of buildups, a lot of reverb.

You got to love it.

Now, here I think there was some shimmering in the frequencies that I didn't like.

It was a bit sharp.

But all the background noise was removed.

Listen to the background noise here.

It's quite irritating.

A lot of buildups, a lot of reverb.

You got to love it.

Oh yeah.

So the harsh frequencies were also in the original.

My bad.

But that can always be reduced by using EQ.

And this EQ here, I think, made it a bit better, at least.

Into my wonderful room.

A lot of EQ clashes, a lot of buildup.

You see here the AI has used EQ to clamp down on whatever I didn't like before.

A lot of reverb.

You got to love it.

But still, I would do some other choices as well with the EQ.

I think AI has brought this vocal track quite far.

Now, let's just try another test.

This time, I'm going to use this microphone right here.

My wonderful room Aston.

This is the Aston microphone with the low setting.

Okay, here we go.

Now listen to the sound of the same room, but with another mic.

A dynamic mic.

This is the one that I'm using in the video.

And what I don't like about this mic is that it picks up a lot of clicks and pops.

Even though it's built-in—there's a built-in pop filter—it still catches all those clicks.

The Ks are really annoying on this mic right here.

I used to use a pop filter.

I even used two.

If you look at a couple of my older videos, you can see I'm using two pop filters.

And that's just for me being so irritated about the Ks.

Maybe it's the placement though.

Let's see if this AI can treat those irritating plosives.

Dynamic mic.

This is the one that I'm using in the video.

And it sounds like this.

A bit nasal.

Let's try the medium.

I love that it's not that much of a choice when it comes to treating the vocals with this tool.

Less decision fatigue.

Now listen to the sound of the same room, but with another mic.

A dynamic mic.

This is the one that I'm using in the video.

And it sounds like this.

Okay, I think that was better.

Now let's try the high setting.

See what it does.

Now listen to the sound of the same room, but with another mic.

A dynamic mic.

This is the one that I'm using in the video.

And it sounds like this.

I think this is one of the best.

Wow, this is really good.

I don't know what you think, but taking into consideration that I've recorded this in a living room with no curtains and no carpets on the floor—

There's literally nothing.

Flat surfaces.

Plastered walls.

No corner treatment.

Nothing.

And it did this.

Which means I could probably do a rap verse in this room, use this tool, and have it come out pretty decent.

That's quite cool.

Without all those artifacts that a lot of other tools make as well.

So there's always a compromise in quality of the sound.

Of course, a vocal recorded in a professional studio will be a lot better.

But to create tracks as an independent artist who wants to release music on streaming services and grow a brand—

Go for it.

You don't need to spend thousands of dollars on wife-friendly acoustic treatment.

Now that's in the past.

Now you can use tools like this.

This is my opinion.

I want to hear your opinion.

Let me know in the comments below what you think about this tool.

And as a reminder, this tool is available in Lander Studio.

You can get it in the description below.

Then you will also support this channel.

And of course, 20% discount to you.

Now, if you like videos about recording vocals in your home studio, check out one of these videos.

I think you'll love it.

Hope I see you there.

Peace out.
