Summary:

In this video, I test out the brand-new free app EQ Academy by Mastering the Mix. It’s a gamified EQ training tool that helps producers and engineers sharpen their ears by matching EQ curves through fun, interactive challenges. Whether you're in single-player mode or battling other producers, EQ Academy pushes you to recognize frequency changes in real music.

You’ll see how the app works, why it's useful for improving your critical listening skills, and how it can help you better understand your room and speaker setup, especially if you're producing in a less-than-perfect space.

Perfect for home studio producers, beatmakers, or anyone looking to train their ears and improve their EQ decision-making.

Download the EQ Academy while it’s still free and give your mixes a real upgrade.

Here's the video transcript:

I was sitting on my couch this morning enjoying a cup of Sub,

doom-scrolling on Instagram, and then I saw a post from Seids where she said that there's a new APP from MASTERING THE MIX — and it's free.

It's called the EQ Academy, and it's sort of like a gamified EQ training.

And I think it's really worth it.

So check out the link, it's in the description

both for Seids — because, you know, you need to follow her — and also for the APP.

So without any further ado, let's go.

So, here we have the EQ Explorer.

I've downloaded it for free.

I had to join their email list, but that's okay because they're awesome.

So, it's Mastering The Mix, and I've already played a bit around with it.

I've reached level 6.

There are two modes.

You have, like, single-player mode, which is like story mode in most games for old-school gamers.

And for new-school gamers, you can battle other producers.

Like, you can hook up and you can battle.

You can start.

And I'm not going to play any audio because I'm afraid that it's, like, copyrighted and such.

So I'm just going to leave it muted.

It's playing back a song.

Here's the target EQ.

So you have to listen.

And — okay — this is how it's supposed to sound.

And then comes your EQ.

And now something has changed.

Some EQ curves have changed.

And to make it easier for you, these are the two bands.

And when you start off, you only have one band to think about.

So you have to either boost or cut the band to a certain amount to make it sound as similar as possible to the target EQ.

So that's pretty much it.

And I would guess that when you reach more levels, you get more EQ choices.

And for the advanced, you might also get the ability to move the node — but who knows?

It's a really fun thing to do.

So you can just try out something now.

Now, I'm not listening — so just keep that in mind.

And then you submit it.

And — oh yeah — it was wrong.

And here is the target EQ curve that you were supposed to hit.

So then you can hit replay, and then it will load up another song.

Not the same song — because that would be too easy — but now another song.

Oh, and then you can start, like, messing around.

If you do this regularly, maybe you will become a better listener.

This is typically for listening skills because you really have to hone your ears.

And also, this is great for learning your speaker setup.

If you have sort of like a room with a lot of standing waves — and, you know, typically bedroom producers without any acoustic treatment — then you learn how the EQ curves work in your setup.

Make sure you go download it right away.

Don't miss out because it might be paid at a later point.

And if you like videos about obtaining the best possible tonal balance in your songs, check out this video right here — because this is a must-have plugin.

It's called Tonal Balance Control 2.

Check it out.

Hope I see you there.

Thanks so much for watching.

Peace out.

Oh, and don't forget to grab a cup of Sub.

The link is in the description below for my merch shop.

You can just check it out there if you want to.

That's of course if you want to.

All right.
